Been interviewing pool contractors and now we are totally confused. I'm disable and need a pool for exercise movement plus enjoyment. Some say concrete others say fiberglass or vinyl.Even though we have not had any earthquakes we are very close to one of the major fault lines (~100 miles), so should concrete be ruled out? And if we choose concrete what type of interior should we go with diamond brite, marcite or paint? Also is Ultra Pure Ozone the way too go? Since I can not get around I need the least maintenance pool there is.What system has the most enjoyment with the easiest system to run and manage a pool? No worries at all for the life time of the pool? If we go fiberglass what brand, Ocean Reef which they say has the thickest fiberglass compared to their competitors. what others are out there. If you were going to build a swimming pool for your mother what kind would you install, including pump, filtering system and whatever else you must have for a turn key swimming pool. Do not be shy, tell me straight!

Hello Hitch, For myself , I built a concrete pool w/ small pebble finish, which is to light in color ,unfortunatley.I used all Pentair equipment w/salt chloinator which is now about 8 years old and still works like brand new. I used a light color for water line tile so the calcium ring would not show as much over time, and I still do not see one. I live in socal and we do have earthquakes but I had more steal added, but only because I live on a hill . After I saw the amount of steal , I think my house will fall before that pool moves. I guess it's just all personal preference. I spent about 25 thousand , but did alot of work myself and also added the in house controller , which is nice. I recomend pentair equipment and some type of plaster, maybe 3m quartz or something, pebble tech is over rated,I would not do pebble again. Enjoy , it was a fun process for my kids and I.

I agree with mex, I would go with what most people call a concrete pool (it's actually a concrete product call gunite) and Pentair equipment. These are the easiest to maintain especially if you get a simple white plaster finish. Since you want to use it for mobility exercise I would recomend not getting the salt system and just using chlorine tablets since you have to pour 25# bags of salt into the water and brush it to dissolve it completely. I would also suggest a simple rectangular shape perhaps even what is know as a "sport pool" design. These are shallow on both ends and deeper (usually no more then 5 feet) in the middle. A Kreepy Krawly automatic cleaner would be an asset as well.

Concrete/Gunite with plaster finish. Durability and ability to stand up to the winters. Replacing vinyl liners is a pain, and the appearance isn't as nice as the plaster. You'll only get about 5/6 months a year out of the pool. Don't have a spa included in the build of the pool. Develop a plan so that the spa is integrated, but on its own system, so you can use it year round. Good luck.

If your considering installing a swimming pool, with such overflowing options in your mind. There are these simple tips for you which i hope, can give help on selecting the right kind of swimming pool to build. budget->consider your budget, this will play a large part. above ground pools are least expensive,if you want inground pools, a pool with a liner is a better choice. climate->consider your climate, the weather and climate can have a big impact on your pool. soil->consider your ground soil. fiber glass-inground pools are for sandy soil, but not for clay soil. area/space->consider the size of the pool, and the available size you have. concrete pools provides various size and shape.
