Hi!
I have just completed the closing of my pool but one thing does not seem right.
From the skimmer to the filter, the water stays in the pipe.
Is this normal?
I have tried to evacuate that water with my shop vac but the water is still there.
By the way,it's a inground and the water is lowered 18 inches below the skimmer.

Hi,

if there is an elbow or odd turn in the plumbing it can have water in it. I have found that a shop vac just isn't enough to totally blow out the lines but if your equipment is above the water level and you put in the gizmo you should be fine. you can pour some rv antifreeze in the line before plugging to be extra sure.

if the water level is 1 inch above the bottom of the skimmer,I should put a plug????
The tempature here is around -40 f at the winter peak,do you think RV antifreeze will protect against frost.

Hi,

When I say plug I'm referring to the gizmo (18" green tube) for the skimmer to help keep the skimmer body from breaking when the skimmer freezes and it also serves as a plug for the skimmer to keep rain and snow out of the plumbing. at -40 I would pour a gallon of antifreeze in the skimmer and plug with the Gizmo
Check the link for info on the gizmo.

Does your shop vac have a blower option (either detachable or connecting the hose to the exhaust? If so, try blowing the line (it sounds like you're trying to suck the water out with the shop vac, but I could be wrong).

Try blowing from the pump back to the skimmer. In my pool I intially tried blowing from the skimmer to the pump but the shop vac blower just couldn't do it. When I went from the pump to the skimmer it blew out just fine.
