I care for a 28,000 gallon swimming pool. It has a small 36" chlorinator plumbed into the return line. Recently, I had an airlock in the chlorinator (or something that caused it to stop feeding). After a sunny, hot weekend, My chlorine was almost non-exsistent.
I shocked the pool with Dy-Chlor II and refilled the chlorinator. Then for a quick infusion of residual sanitizer, I tossed a few Di-chlor II tabs into the hair/lint basket of the pump.
My boss went nuts. He said I was destroying the the pump and the motor.
Is this true?
Does adding a few tabs (three or four) directly to the hair/lint basket of the pump have the potential to destroy the pump (and or pump or motor parts)?
Any information would be appreciated. (PH was 7.6, calcium was 200, alkalinity 190)

In short YES, it will hurt the pump seal the most which can cause a leak that ruins the front bearing of the motor also hurts the multi port gasket and spring. With that said 3 or 4 1" Tabs One time wont hurt the pump but it is a bad idea.
