Just a warning to anyone with, or thinking of getting, an Intellichlor salt chlorinator: we recently had a very, very bad experience with Pentair. Last year we had a pool put in with a Intellichlor IC20 cell. It literally exploded our entire filter system on 2 separate occasions sending shrapnel over 150 feet. It could easily have killed one of our kids if they were out there. Pentair refuses to admit any responsibility even though a Pentair technician had worked on the system the day before one of the explosions. I have created a site as part of the ongoing litigation. For more details you can visit http://www.intellichlor-bomb.com

Hi,

what was the final verdict from Pentair? I am a pentair builder and I have installed hundreds of Intellichlors and have never heard of a problem like this.

The official verdict of Pentair's legal department was 'the Power Center was not installed on and wired to the load side of the time clock.' Funny thing is, we have never had a time clock. My case was officially closed with this bizarre decision.

The last tech guy that worked on my system indicated that they would have to write an addendum to be included with the installation guide. Just because the cell indicates its off, doesn't mean it really is. Yet they refuse to admit any liability.

PENTAIR IS THE WORST! I purchased a Pentair Salt System in October 2007 when I had a new pool installed. The Pentair was installed by a professional. In September 2008 I began having a problem with my pool tile being stained with black. I contacted Pentair who told me they never heard of such a thing. My pool has always been maintained by professionals. After much research and cleaning, in November of 2008 my pool looked like new. In September 2009 the black stain came back. I again contacted Pentair who offered absolutely no solution to this problem. They refused to come and look at the unit. I finally hired an independent contractor to inspect the unit and he advised me that the ruthenium on the fins has dissolved. This unit is still under warranty. Pentair has offered no help at all. After I contacted the Better Business Bureau, they responded with some nonsense about underground wires which we do not have. I thought I had problems, now I see I am lucky it is not worse! BEWARE OF PENTAIR!!!
