anyone here use them? When we moved in, the sellers left their Polaris 360 and I hated that thing- it was old and didn't function well at all. Been thinking about getting a Baracuda or a Kreepy Krauly-
anyone here use auto pool cleaners? Any you love or hate?

I have a friend who's husband really likes their zodiac G4. No problems with it so far and they have had it approx. 2 years.

I use an Aquabot Solo and I would rate its performance as adequate. The downside to the thing is that it gets hung up on steps, wall angles and the outlet jets.
In other words, it picks the debis up off the bottom of the pool but it needs to be watched while it works so you can remove it from its obstacles.

I would suggest the Kreepy Krawly, they are the best for getting out dirt and most leaves. The Barracuda is a good device but in the years I've been in the business the diaphram is a problem. They break and cost between 20-30 bucks to replace. If the Kreepy's only moving part breaks then you just take it to the dealer and they give you another one, Pentair warranties them for the life of the Kreepy.
Cleaners are stupid, they don't know to look at the pool and see what they miss or that they are stuck in a corner. Don't buy the expensive little doo-dads that supposedly keep them free of corners and the stairs, just keep an eye on it and if it gets stuck then give the hose a tug.

This post is a good example though of how people have varying experiences with different cleaners. Generally speaking, I find the Baracudas to be reliable but it sure helps when we put them together FOR the customer, because 9/10 buyers assemble it without reading the instructions and screw something up. Then they walk in the next day with the protective netting shoved inside the hose, the disc mounted upside down, and the flowkeeper valve unused because they couldn't figure out what to do with it, and complain how the cleaner doesn't work worth a damn. We sell our diaphrams for $9 and yes they do occasionally need replacement.

I have a Kontini and I've used it once. Since I've been having a problem clearing my pool I thought it wouldn't hurt. I had it run all night. I noticed it didn't hit EVERY spot..but it did work for what I needed

Aquabot are the best in my experience and I would certainly recommend the Turbo T2.

We had a Kreepy that we replaced with a Great White because the Kreepy was always hung up on the steps.
Now, we need to replace the Great White because of to many wear-out parts to be replaced each year.
We are moving and building a rectangular pool. Right now, I am thinking about a Kreepy, partly because of what Buster said.
Does a Kreepy get hung up in the corners of a pool? The pool we have now does not have any corners.
Thanks, Pat

Pat,
We've had a Kreepy for 8 years and it's been pretty darn good. It never gets stuck in the corners as they are smooth and rounded, but it does get stuck sometimes where the deep step meet the wall in the shallow end. Here there is a sharp joint and the bump bar on the back of the Kreepy gets stuck. In general, it's been pretty flawless. Funny thing is that a small adjustment in the hose, or the weight placement on the hose, makes the Kreepy take a completely different path. During the Fall, when there are LOTS of leaves in the pool, I connect the Kreepy Krawly leaf catcher in-line. It's a life saver. A year ago, the Kreepy sucked so many leaves that the suction line clogged. I've never tried any other pool cleaner, but the Kreepy is mechanically very simple. There is only one moving part: The plastic flapper inside the mouth. How much simpler can you get?
